Mark Emery is an active performer and educator throughout the New England area. A graduate of NEC and a Fellow of Tanglewood Music Center, where he won the Roger Voisin Trumpet Award in 2002, Mark teaches trumpet privately and at Tufts University. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, in Natick, MA.
Roles
Mark is the principal trumpet of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra (VSO), where he has performed Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano (and Trumpet) with celebrated pianist Gloria Chen, the Barber Capricorn Concerto, and the Vivaldi Concerto for Two Trumpets. Mark has recorded with VSO under Jaime Laredo. He holds the second trumpet position with the Vista Philharmonic, a group celebrating its first seasons in the world-class Groton Hill Music Center in Groton, MA.
Mark is also the principal trumpet of the Opera North Orchestra (NH) and frequently plays with the Middlebury Opera Company and the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra.
Substitute/Extra Work
Much of Mark’s week-to-week work comes from being a substitute for well-established groups, including the Boston Ballet, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Springfield Symphony, and others.
Years of substitute/extra work with the Boston Symphony and the Boston Pops include many performances at Carnegie Hall and Tanglewood, national tours, Fourth of July broadcasts, Red Sox World Series and Playoff performances, recording and performing under John Williams for the 100th Anniversary of Fenway Park, and multiple episodes on PBS Great Performances
Activities Outside of Orchestral Music
Mark is also active as a chamber musician and is a member of Bala Brass. He has enjoyed summers performing at the Caspian Music Festival, the White Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival, among others.
